jio receives letter of intent from dot for satellite communication services

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) The satellite arm of Reliance Jio Infocomm has received a letter of intent (LoI) from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for satellite communication services. Industry sources gave this information.

Sources said that the letter of intent was issued to Jio Satellite Communication Limited (PACL) on Monday.

The company did not yet respond to an email sent to Reliance Jio for comment in this regard.

Sources said the DoT has awarded the letter of intent to the company for Global Mobile Personal Communication (GMPCS) via satellite.

Simultaneously, the company may establish and operate GMPCS services in the licensed service areas. This license is for a period of 20 years from the date of approval. Voice and data services will be offered under GMPCS.
