New Delhi : All the major US indices closed at a higher level on the last trading day of last week. There was positivity on Wall Street amid a strong earnings season. Due to this, most of the Asian indices opened higher today. Indian benchmark indices followed a similar trend.

The advance-decline ratio remained in favor of advances with 1,916 scrips advancing and 1,435 scrips declining on the BSE. The worst performing sectors were BSE Metals and BSE Auto. While a strong performance in power and IT sector stocks helped offset losses among loser sectors.

At 11 am on Monday, the BSE Sensex rose 0.14% to reach a level of 60,344. At the same time, the Nifty-50 index rose by 0.02% to reach the level of 17,960. Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and Tata Consultancy Services were the top gainers on the Sensex. While Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and NTPC Ltd were the market drags.

Broader indices moved up in line with the core indices. Ratanindia Enterprises was the top BSE Smallcap gainer. The stock soared more than 15% on a tenfold increase in volume. There was heavy buying in the shares of Just Dial Limited and SEPC Limited. Today, upper circuit has been seen in these penny stocks. These can be monitored in the coming session.
