Tomar said there is a need to ensure adequate availability of fodder

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday stressed the need to ensure adequate availability of fodder.

The minister was speaking at the International Dairy Federation’s World Dairy Conference in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

An official statement said Tomar drew the attention of the delegates to the challenges faced by the agriculture and dairy sectors and called for working together on common issues.

Tomar said there is a need to work out how to ensure adequate availability of fodder and what can be done for this purpose.

The minister also pointed out that the waste is not being disposed of properly.

He said that there is a need to convert crop residue, fruit and vegetable waste into profitable items.

Tomar said that there is a need to think and work on how we can use the waste in different ways.

He gave the example of stubble disposal, where the Pusa Institute has made a decomposer (dissolution device) using technology.

He said that this would increase the productivity of the farm, while fodder would also be available for the cattle.

Tomar said that India is primarily an agricultural country, and the scope of agriculture is incomplete without animal husbandry and cooperative sectors.

He said that therefore the Prime Minister has created separate ministries for animal husbandry and cooperative sectors and has also increased their budget.

Tomar said that the government is promoting organic farming in a big way along with natural farming.
