Mumbai – Major Indian indices opened the new week at lows on Monday in response to the recent interest rate hike by the central bank and a weak global environment for capital markets.

BSE Consumer staples and BSE auto indices were trading with losses of more than 1% each. While both the BSE Healthcare and BSE Telecom sectoral indices rose more than 1% each in the weak market. Shares of Morepen Laboratories rose by more than 12%. Hence, it became the leading bullish stock in BSE Smallcap and BSE Healthcare Index as well.

The BSE Sensex fell 0.95% to 56,880 at 11 am on Monday. While the Nifty50 index fell by 0.83% to 16,951. ATPC Limited in Sensex, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Sun Pharmaceuticals were the frontrunners. Maruti Suzuki, IndusInd Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the decliners.

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for September rose by 26% to Rs. 1.48 lakh crores. As the country’s foreign exchange reserves are continuously decreasing, according to the Reserve Bank of India data, the total reserves decreased by 8.13 billion dollars to 537.51 billion dollars in the week ended on 23rd September.
