Government may release new draft of data protection bill for public comments

New Delhi, November 15 (Language) The government may issue a new draft of the Data Protection Bill to know public opinion in a week. Two government sources gave this information.

The government had withdrawn the Personal Data Protection Bill in early August. It was first introduced in late 2019.

“The draft is expected to be released for public comments in a week,” an official source told PTI.

Union Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that the Joint Parliamentary Committee that looked into the original draft had suggested 88 amendments to the Bill containing 91 sections. In such a situation, the government had to take a decision to completely withdraw the original bill and the government had ‘no option’ other than this.
