Rupee strengthened by 10 paise to 81.54 per dollar in early trade


Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) The rupee on Friday strengthened by 10 paise to 81.54 against the US dollar in early trade amid weakening of the US dollar overseas and foreign fund inflows into Indian markets.

In the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the rupee opened at 81.59 against the dollar and within a short span of time it further recovered to the level of 81.54. In this way, a strength of 10 paise was recorded in the rupee as compared to the previous closing price.

On the previous trading day, the rupee had lost 38 paise to close at 81.64 per dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the strength of the US dollar against a basket of six major currencies, fell 0.17 per cent to 106.51.

International oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.61 percent to $90.33 a barrel.

According to available data, foreign investors made net purchases of shares worth Rs 618.37 crore in Indian bourses on Thursday.
