G20 countries showed speed in imposing trade restrictions: WTO
Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Russia, Britain and America are also included in the G20 group of developed and some developing countries of the world.
The WTO said in mid-October its member states had imposed 52 restrictions on food products and fertilizers. Apart from this, 27 export restrictions were also imposed on essential items related to the prevention of Kovid-19 epidemic.
The G20 trade watchdog report said that in view of the economic uncertainty created by the pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and the food security crisis, G20 countries increased export restrictions from mid-May to mid-October. In this, restrictions were imposed especially on the export of food products and fertilizers.
WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo Iwiela urged the G20 countries to refrain from taking new measures of trade embargo, saying that this could worsen the global economic scenario.
