India to start talks on new FTA next week: Goyal
New Delhi, 16 November (Language) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday that India will start negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with one more region next week.
He said talks are on for FTAs with several countries including Britain, European Union, Canada and Israel.
“Next week we will introduce another very important FTA,” Goyal said at a consumer electronics event here.
The Union Minister, however, did not reveal any area. But there is a possibility that talks in this direction may begin with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as the region is keen to increase economic engagement with India.
The GCC is actually a federation of six countries in the Gulf region: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
