Indigo will order 500 planes, Air India will be left behind

New Delhi: The country’s largest airline IndiGo is going to buy 500 aircraft. According to sources, the deal could be worth $50 billion. In February, Air India had announced the purchase of around 470 aircraft. In this way Indigo’s deal is bigger than Air India. Air India is now part of the Tata Group. According to a Reuters report, IndiGo will buy around 500 narrow body aircraft from European company Airbus. These will be A-320 family aircraft. According to a recently published list of Airbus, the deal could be worth $50 billion. But in the airline industry, bulk purchases of aircraft are available at huge discounts. Indigo was in talks with both Airbus and Boeing for this deal. If this deal is confirmed then it will be the biggest deal in aviation history.

According to sources, Airbus and American company Boeing are in separate talks to sell 25 aircraft to Indigo. These aircraft will be wide-body. Airbus has offered the A330neo and Boeing the 787. IndiGo chief executive Peter Albers, who is attending the annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association in Istanbul, declined to comment. Airbus and Boeing also declined to comment. Indigo has a 56 per cent share in the domestic market.

Domestic airline industry not healthy, foreign airlines reaping more profit: Air India CEO

supply chain problem

IndiGo had earlier placed an order for 830 aircraft of the A320 family with Airbus. The company has not yet taken delivery of about 500 of them. Airbus and Boeing have blamed supply chain issues for the delivery of the planes. Due to problems in the network of the engine repair company, many planes of the airlines are grounded. Airbus and Boeing are getting big orders after the aviation sector is back on track amid the pandemic.
