ORAN will give new flight to India-America in telecom sector
India is taking a different approach for telecom solutions under the ORAN model. Under this, different companies build complex, integrated networks. ORAN has been discussed in high level meetings between India and America. This matter also came up in the recent meeting between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Jack Sullivan of America. Also this was discussed in the quad meeting. Many countries have termed Chinese telecom companies as a threat to their national security. That’s why many countries are showing activism to break the dominance of China in the telecom sector.
what is the plan
Several US companies such as Cisco have expressed willingness to work with Indian companies in the rollout of 4G and 5G solutions and development of 6G. It has also found a place in the priority list of Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) launched between India and the US in January. Its purpose is to promote cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as AI, Telecom, ORAN, Space, Quantum Computing and Semiconductors. India has got some initial advantage under ORAN. For this, domestic companies have formed a consortium. It played a key role in the development of 4G and 5G solutions. Along with this, efforts are also being made to make our own telecom stack in the country. This will help India break the dominance of companies like Huawei, ZTE, Nokia and Ericsson. The Government of India believes that India’s cheap and safe technology can be attractive to emerging economies of the world and big countries like America.
