Sri Lanka’s inflation rate stood at 61 percent in November


Colombo, November 30 (Language) Sri Lanka, which is facing a deep economic crisis, has seen a slight decline in the retail inflation rate of 61 percent in November.

The Statistics Office of Sri Lanka gave this information on Wednesday. In October, the inflation rate was 66 percent.

The 12-month inflation based on the Colombo Consumer Price Index stood at 69.8 per cent in September and the National Consumer Price Index at 73.8 per cent.

The Census and Statistics Department said the consumer price index in Colombo dropped to 61 percent in November, down marginally from October’s 66 percent.

This is the second month in a row that the headline inflation rate has declined.

Sri Lanka’s central bank governor Nandlal Weerasinghe said the easing of the inflation rate after peaking at 70 per cent is a sign that the economy is now on the path of recovery.
