Telecom infrastructure companies ordered to share assets with notified entities

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) has amended the registration rules for infrastructure companies in the telecom sector.

According to the notification issued in this regard, this amendment has been made to provide access to the assets of infrastructure companies in the telecom sector to entities notified by the central government for public interest and national security.

Earlier, telecom infrastructure companies were allowed to share assets such as ‘dark fibre’, ‘duct space’ and ‘mobile towers’ with other parties on mutually agreed terms.

The revised norms on November 10 said that assets such as dark fibre, duct space and mobile towers of companies with ‘IP-1’ registration can be shared with entities specified by the central government.

This step has been taken keeping in view the national security and public interest as per the terms and conditions specified by the Central Government.
