Mumbai: Banking stocks, which were in decline due to the Silicon Valley crisis, have now returned to a boom. Asian markets have been positive. At 10:45 am, the BSE Sensex gained 0.40% to reach a level of 58,131. The Nifty 50 index rose 0.46% to reach the level of 17,121. On Sensex, Asian Paints, Larsen & Toubro and Tata Steel were among the top gainers. While Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever and Nestle India were among the top losers.
On the BSE, 2,177 stocks are up and 966 stocks are down. The broad indices outperformed the core indices by a significant margin. Shares of Rama Phosphates Ltd, top BSE smallcap gainer, rallied over 13% on a spurt in volumes after recovering from its 52-week low.
