MUMBAI: Stock exchanges around the world are downbeat due to fears of a slowdown and a rise in interest rates. However, Asian stock markets showed a mixed trend.

On Wednesday, the Indian headline indices oscillated between modest gains and losses. Today itself, the MPC of the Reserve Bank of India reduced the growth rate of real gross domestic product (GDP) to 6.8%. Along with this, the repo rate was increased by 35 basis points. After this, there was a sharp decline in the market.

At 11:25 am, the BSE Sensex fell by 0.30% to a level of 62,440. The Nifty 50 index also fell 0.38% to 18,572. On Sensex, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Asian Paints were top gainers, while Bajaj Finserv, NTPC Ltd and IndusInd Bank were top losers.

BSE Capital Goods saw a gain of more than one per cent. This helped the market move up. But the indices were dragged down by losses in real estate, utilities and consumer durables stocks. Looking at the advance decline ratio on BSE, there were gains in 1,402 shares and decline in 1,882 shares. Thus, the advance-decline ratio remained in favor of the decline.

The Broader index declined more than half a percent, tracking weakness in the major indices. In a sluggish market, shares of BSE top smallcap gainer Optimus Infracom rallied over 10%, keeping small-cap bulls active.

Here is the list of penny stocks stuck in upper circuit today. Keep an eye on these stocks for the coming session.
