New Delhi : US stock markets fell on Wednesday night after the US central bank Federal Reserve hiked interest rates by 0.75 per cent. This raised the federal funds rate target from 3.75 to 4 per cent. After this aggressive stance by the Federal Reserve, the rupee depreciated against the US dollar in early trade.

Indian benchmark indices opened marginally lower but better than other Asian indices after weakness in global markets. The advance-decline ratio on the BSE remained in favor of advances, with 1,746 shares rising and 1,538 shares falling.

Most of the indices were seen trading with a decline. BSE Power and BSE Utilities were the biggest losers. In such a weak market, the stock of Reliance Communication saw an upper circuit of 5%. The BSE Telecommunication Index was up one per cent. Reliance Communication was at the top in this. On the other hand, FMCG and banking sector stocks saw marginal gains.

At 11:45 am, the BSE Sensex was trading down 0.12% at 60,834 level. Nifty 50 index fell 0.16% to 18,053 level. Axis Bank, State Bank of India and Bharti Airtel were the biggest gainers on the Sensex. While Tech Mahindra, Power Grid Corporation of India and Mahindra & Mahindra saw a decline. Today the following penny shares have closed in the upper circuit.
