Mumbai – Investors followed a somewhat cautious approach after October retail as well as wholesale inflation rates came out. As a result, major Indian indices started the week flat after Friday’s sharp rally. 1,770 shares advanced and 1,675 shares declined in the Mumbai Stock Exchange. The advance-decline ratio remained balanced.

The BSE Sensex fell 0.23% to 61,654 at 11:30 am on Monday. The Nifty50 index gained 0.04% to 18,341. Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Tech Mahindra were leading the Sensex. While Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, ICICI Bank and Hindustan Unilever fell.

Investor sentiment was somewhat mixed on the sector front. While the BSE metal index recorded a constructive reaction. BSE Metals were the top gainers in such a disappointing session led by Hindalco Industries with gains of over 1%. Shares of Hindalco Industries rose by nearly 5% despite a sharp decline in profits due to rising production costs. BSE Energy and BSE Telecom were the biggest decliners.

According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, India’s industrial growth was 3.1% in September. The Reserve Bank said that India’s foreign exchange reserves declined by $1.08 billion to $529.99 billion in the week ended November 12.
