Mumbai – Wall Street’s modest performance for the year was reported on Tuesday. All major US indices fell more than 2%. A fear of an economic slowdown was created in the market along with investors’ expectations of prolonged interest rate hikes.

Major Indian indices fell sharply due to losses in several sectors. Asian markets also fell. All sectoral indices here fell. Among them, the consumer goods, energy and real estate sectors were hit the hardest. BSE Healthcare and BSE FMCG were the least affected sectors.

The BSE Sensex was trading down 0.877% at 60,147 at 11 am on Wednesday. While the Nifty50 index fell 0.86% to 17,672. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries was the only gainer in the Sensex. While Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and IndusInd Bank declined.

905 shares advanced and 2,253 shares declined in the Mumbai Stock Exchange. The advance-decline ratio remained on the decline side. Shares of Coffee Day Enterprises were the top gainers in BSE Smallcap. It increased by more than 10%. Shares of AKI Energy Services and ITI Ltd were also heavily bought.
